2024 MILEAGE - 2368.8
Yesterday Christy issued me a challenge -- to do, at some point in the next few days, a much more modest ride than I am accustomed to (say, in the neighborhood of a half hour). So today, I decided to take up this challenge. This was on top of me taking yesterday as a rest day—I had planned to ride in the afternoon, after I got home from picking Christy up at Metro, but by the time I got home I was too exhausted (having been up since 5:30 composing), so I granted myself some grace and climbed in bed to nap.
It seemed to me that today would be a good day to hold back. Last night Michelle and I went to an outdoor music performance, and on the way there we were walking along the sidewalk. At one point it dropped off rather precipitously (and, I would say, dangerously) some five inches or so. I didn't see this, and ended up tripping and falling. I was not seriously injured, but lost some blood from scrapes on my fingers. Some Good Samaritans passing by (including a nurse) helped patch me up, and I was soon good to go.
However, I fell on my side and my face. My chest and rib area are still tender, as is my shoulder where I wrenched it on the way down, so a scaled back day today for riding seemed perfectly reasonable.
I rode a route that I used to run (pre-2012, when I was still running) -- the Figure 8 (south along Lohr, east along Ellsworth to Oak Valley, then up and around on Oak Valley over to Waters (where Target is), and then home.
This gave me a ride of 3.9 miles in 34 minutes.
