Today I kind of backed off and did a very lightweight ride while watching The Two Towers, the middle movie of the trilogy which comprises the cinematic versions of J.R.R. Tolkien's novel The Lord of the Rings (which, incidentally, also provides the basis for the name of our church handbell choir, The Rings of the Lord). The genesis of the book, as Tolkien recalled it, was that "I wanted to try my hand at writing a really long tale that would hold people's attention."
The novel IS quite long (conventionally referred to as a trilogy, although splitting it into three books was a publisher's convention when it was decided that to publish it as a single book was unwieldy and unrealistic), and the movies are commensurately long. This one (a third of the total) is itself about three hours, and as I got into it, I decided to settle for watching only the first third of it.
This gave me a ride today of 11.6 virtual miles in 1:00.
